(LONDON, ONTARIO | August 26, 2020 - On Sunday, August 30, Julia Notebomer, on her 14th birthday, will attempt to be the youngest person to swim across Lake Erie (20 km) while fundraising for Make-A-Wish® Southwestern Ontario. Julia says, "I decided to fundraise for Make-A-Wish® because I believe that every kid should have the opportunity to do fun things and to just be a kid. With your support I hope to make many wishes come true!"

Julia started open water swimming when she was 10 years old. She began by doing a one-km race and fell in love with open water swimming, increasing to a 3.8 km the following year. Julia swims competitively with the Wilmot Aquatic Aces Swim Club in Wilmot, and participated last year in a 12.8 km Swim for the Cure.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH® CANADA

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization, serving children in every community in Canada, and in more than 50 countries worldwide.

On October 1, 2019, Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada and Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Canada joined forces, with the goal of granting the wish of every eligible child across the country. United as Make-A-Wish Canada, our mission is to provide children with life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to realize their most heartfelt wish, giving them the strength to endure their treatments and build resilience.

Together, generous donors, supporters, staff and volunteers across the country help grant more than four wishes per day, on average. Since 1983, Make-A-Wish Canada has granted over 34,000 wishes across the country, over 1,600 last year alone. For more information about Make-A-Wish Canada, visit makeawish.ca.
