Chase's Wish

Chase is a seven-year-old boy living with a brain tumor, but that doesn't hold him down! He loves to play sports and watch football with his dad so it’s no surprise his wish was to coach his favourite football team, the Oakland Raiders.

His wish became a dream come true for Chase and his family as he became coach for the day on the Friday before a Sunday home game against the New York Jets.

“Chase was awesome,” said coach Jack Del Rio. “He got the whistle going as practice went on and he broke the team up. It was great to have him out here today.”

And he had a full day! After signing a coach’s contract, he had his own locker in the coach’s locker room. Del Rio was his locker neighbour. After touring the facility on Halloween eve, and trick-or-treating along the way, Chase hit the practice field alongside Del Rio and the other coaches to put the team through its paces.

After practice, he ate lunch with the team and even answered a few questions from the media. That can be frightening for any coach, let alone a rookie. The team staff was there every step of the way to provide anything Chase needed, including a black Raiders jersey.

Oh, and how’d the team do? Coach Chase took them to a 34-20 win over the Jets.

Chase’s mom is grateful for the opportunity the family had to be together, saying “Our vacation is over but our memories we will cherish forever.”
